Many years ago, when I was finishing my undergraduate degree in Music Education, a friend of mine named Dave wandered into the piano store where I was teaching.   He admitted to me that as an athlete, even if he went on to play sports professionally, his body would be ruined and in pain by the age of 35, and he could no longer participate as a player and enjoy the sports world.

He went on to express that he was jealous of my skills at the piano, and unlike his projection of a career in sports, I could play and teach till I was very old.   I was flattered at his remarks and understood his point.

I also had a medical doctor whose children I taught back in the mid 1980's.    She was of Czech heritage and she let me know in our first appointment, how important Music and Music Education was to her, "Mr. Scott, Music is just as important as Math, English and Science",  and she demanded it be a part of her families daily life.  Research studies can be found through a goggle search which validate how the study of Music helps 'sort' the brain, so a child can excel at Math and Science skills.

I enjoy teaching all children, including those who may have Autism, Aspergers, AD, and ADHD.   Music and Art have a proven tract record as a positive contribution to the lives of all children.   For some students who are shy and may lack verbal skills, music and art work allows them as different way of expressing their thoughts and feelings.
